information about Alanya

The ancient name of the city is 'Korakesion'. Alanya is known for the outstanding castle and shipyard, built by the great Seldjuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat. The Red Tower, named after the red stones and bricks used in the construction, was also built in the reign of Sultan Keykubat.

The hudge tower is more than 33 meters high, and consists of five stories on an octagonal base. It was built rather like a castle and the idea was to protect the harbor of the city.

The Alara Fortress and the Summer Palace ( Hamamli Kasr) are the other attractions in Alanya worth seeing. The frescoes used in the decoration of the dome in the bath are particularly impressive.

The Damlatas cave by the town that has stalactites and stalagmites formed in 15 million years time, is also worth seeing.
